Srilanka killing Tamilians - How it happened and got helped

Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said, "President Rajapaksa went out of his way to keep New Delhi briefed about all the new developments taking place in Sri Lanka. He understood that while other countries could mount pressure on us through diplomatic channels or economic means, only India could influence the military campaign. The relationship between Sri Lanka and India was managed through maintaining a clear communications line at the very highest level. "  (source)

India helped Srilanka

India knew exactly what Srilanka is doing and whats happening in the war ( the extent of knowledge about war details is not sure though). Actually Indian Government helped Lanka by keeping quiet on this issue and not speaking out with the details available to them. Indian Government used Tamilian issue as political strategy to claim votes in the 2009 Election.

Indian Government even believed war is much needed one and only by erasing (not defeating) LTTE, Tamilian issue can be sorted out. Indian Government thought to give Political rights to Tamilians in Lanka after the end of war by pressuring Lanka Goverment. India, US, British and UN all knew about Lanka war movements but they had been kept at bay by Lankan Government and they too didn't took any evasive decision to force Lanka to pause the war. The one day (actually just couple of hours) protest by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and  by then TN Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in 2009 is completely scripted drama to earn votes during the election.  (source)

Puthiya Thalaimurai TV report on Srilanka War

War Training and Helping Aids to Srilanka

China provided the big helping hand for Srilanka in Training Armies with advanced weapons during the period of 2004-09. They also provided one billion dollar financial Aid to support and strengthen Lankan military. In exchange for the aid, China received development rights for port facilities and other investments. These actions enabled China to increase its influence in South Asia against its regional rival India and secure stability on its southern flank. Further, US, EU, Japan and Canada provided financial assistance to Srilanka Military.   For more, read here ( Decisive years 2004-2009).

So, India is innocent? No. India provided help in its own way. There were around Rs 30 crore were given to Srilanka Govt under "Aid to Srilanka" in 2006-07 budget. Beyond that, India has their own agreements with Srilanka like Free Trade and building Thermal Power Plant in Sampur.

Srilanka killed civilians with intentions not by accident

In a Channel 4 News broadcast by Jonathan Miller, two eyewitnesses spoke of systematic murder of all LTTE fighters caught or surrendered. One witness is a senior army commander: “Definitely, the order would have been to kill everybody and finish them off.” A frontline Sri Lankan soldier told Miller: “Yes, our commander ordered us to kill everyone. We killed everyone.

International Crisis Group war crimes report:
Starting in late January [2009], the government and security forces encouraged hundreds of thousands of civilians to move into ever smaller government-declared No Fire Zones (NFZs) and then subjected them to repeated and increasingly intense artillery and mortar barrages and other fire. This continued through May despite the government and security forces knowing the size and location of the civilian population and scale of civilian casualties.
The security forces shelled hospitals and makeshift medical centres—many overflowing with the wounded and sick—on multiple occasions even though they knew of their precise locations and functions. During these incidents, medical staff, the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and others continually informed the government and security forces of the shelling, yet they continued to strike medical facilities through May …
More complete and further details can be seen here

Defense Ministry of Srilanka report said, “Despite the clear intent of the government of Sri Lanka and the numerous precautions taken, it was impossible in the battle of this magnitude, against a ruthless opponent actively endangering civilians, for civilian casualties to be avoided.” (source)

UN the saviors? No..  UN kept quiet during the War period totally instead of taking any action against this unlawful war. UN knew exactly whats happening in Srilanka since they have their own satellite which watches over the nations specially during the war period. UN has restrained from specifying the causalities numbers during the war since it may stir the Government and may even possibly make them to escort UN out of nations. In which case, UN can't able to provide foods and other needs for people. So, UN kept quiet instead of saying against Srilanka - LTTE war to provide food for civilians. Western countries which are considered to be strong holds of UN didn't want to intervene with Human Rights issues of Srilanka. Instead those countries official statement just condemned LTTE for their action and asked Srilanka to monitor their own behaviour.

In an interview with former UN Spokesman Gordon Weiss, he revealed many facts about UN,

"I think the broader view was that if the UN used those figures it would make the UN’s position in the country untenable, and the UN mission was not a political mission or a peace-keeping mission or an observer mission, it was a humanitarian mission. So you had a lot of humanitarian agencies who were there trying to deliver the basics to those who were caught up in the siege"..

(Interviewer) ALI MOORE: So was that in essence a judgement that it was better to be there and be silent than not be there at all?

GORDON WEISS: I think it was, yes.

ALI MOORE: Was that right, do you think, in hindsight?

GORDON WEISS: No. I didn’t believe that it was right, but I didn’t have the wherewithal to change that.

Finally, where is the Media and Journalism went?

If there was no Channel 4, then no one in the world not even us, tamilians in India would have known about these unethical action by Sri Lankan Govt. For that, the world needs to applaud them for their effort when even UN maintained silence in the issue. But after all videos broke through Channel 4, Srilanka has banned any coverage of external TV channels in their own land. Even the reporters of Channel 4 were deported from Srilanka in forceful manner.

Defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said “Who is this? You rang me earlier? Is this Channel 4? You have been accusing my soldiers of raping civilians? Your visa is cancelled, you will be deported. You can report what you like about this country, but from your own country, not from here.”

Read the Media escort action report by Srilanka Govt here

This is probably one of reasons why no one, not even UN can gain access to all areas of Srilanka to get the detailed report of current situation. Because Lankan Govt has made several changes to their external policies post the war. They virtually man handling the UN or whoever comes to inquire about war by taking them to only fewer places and not to such places where the severe damages were created. This is specially the case happened when India sent their team to investigate which included ministers from Tamil Nadu to Sri lanka.

**************************************************************

All in All, the world power heads knew Sri lanka crossed the line of Human Rights severely. Even the India Governement which needs to be most concerned because it contains the Tamil origin people knew about this cruel events. But everyone exchanged something (small to higher) in favour to keep their mouth shut. They care for their own country people need.

The voting in UN is just a little more than an eye-washing thing. After so many revealing facts, if it all UN and other countries believe Sri lanka needs to be punished, then they should have done it by now. 3 years are nearly over already. How long the world will wait? may be till the blood smell in Sri lanka soil gets dried off.

We, the tamil people need to worry more than others. We can't do anything now rather just protesting. Because whatever happened is happened. Lives will never return. Whole world needed Srilanka not to get separated into two nations as own country for Tamil people in Srilanka. So, they all played their hand in killings of our origin peoples.

So care for what you care. The world moves on whether you fight or not. We are just an insect in these powerful world. Even if we fight united, then they wait till we itself die off and get to our livings.

உன்னக்காக பேசு, மௌனம் தோல்விக்கு சமம்

"Although tamil people emotional and culturally connected with Ezham in Srilanka, there are no extreme protest and thoughts within them to stop the war. Tamil peoples don't know about issue entirely. They are more concerned about dealing with inner politics issue. The protest are not wide enough and there are only small small sparks within them in parts of area." - Secretary of Home Minister, India on situation of tamil nadu and its people during Srilankan - Ezham war period.... Who got the guts to raise this question to Sachin Tendulkar?

For long, Sachin had answered for our prayers more often than not on the cricket field but also for long, he remained silent on many feelings (questions) from fans.

“I feel those who say you should retire at the top are selfish. Because when you are at the top, you should serve the country instead of retiring. – Sachin Tendulkar said in one of the press interview. There was no information for which specific question Sachin answered like this, but in this article, it was mentioned that it was about retirement talk.

Leave about all the remaining stuff’s in that article and concentrate on the words I bolded in the above quote. It doesn’t matter what the questions once you get the real meaning for those words. If you decode that quote into cricketing sense, it will look somewhat similar to this, “When you are performing very well, then you should play for your team instead of taking rest.”

Retiring is similar to resting actually. Because, in both the cases, you are literally telling the selectors don’t consider them for selection. I don’t remember exactly when BCCI actually said that Sachin will be allowed to pick the series he wants to play but I think it was right after India became No.1 in test rankings (Dec 2009). So, I will consider the matches India played from Jan 2010.

From 01 Jan 2010 to till today, India had played 29 test matches and 72 ODI’s.  Out of that, Sachin had played in 26 test matches and just 23 ODI’s (1032 runs at 46.90 avg and 4 100’s).

ODI’s Sachin Missed/Opted out:
  1. Tri-series in Bangladesh (India, Srilanka and Bangladesh), Jan 2010 – Srilanka won. India lost in final. In the previous series (vs Srilanka, Dec 09), Sachin scored 216 runs at an avg of 72.00 from 4 matches. Sachin opts out of this tournament.
  2. Tri-series in Zimbabwe (India, Zimbabwe and Srilanka), May-June 2010 - Srilanka won. India won just 1 match out of 4 and failed to qualify for final. Most of the first choice Indian players missed the tournament due to IPL workload. Sachin scored 618 runs at an avg of 47.53 in the IPL, Mar- Apr 2010.
  3. Asia Cup, Jun 2010 – India won the cup. Again Sachin opts out of the tournament.
  4. Tri-series in Srilanka (India, Srilanka and New Zealand), Aug 2010 – Srilanka won and India lost in the final. Third tournament in a row, Sachin didn't play.
  5. India vs Australia, 3 match series, Oct 2010 – India won (1-0). Sachin rested again and he actually scored 403 runs at 134.33 avg from two matches in the test series against Australia.
  6. India vs New Zealand, 5 match series, Nov-Dec 2010 – India won (5-0) and Sachin was rested again for this series.
  7. South Africa vs India, 5 match series, Jan 2011 – India lost (2-3). Sachin was ruled out of the series due to Injury after playing in the first two matches.
  8. West Indies vs India, 5 match series, Jun 2011 – India won (3-2). Sachin got rested again. Prior to this series, Sachin scored 482 runs at 53.55 avg in world cup and 553 runs at 42.53 avg in IPL.
  9. NatWest Series (India and England), Sep 2011 – India lost (0-3). Sachin was ruled out due to toe injury.
  10. India vs England, 5 match series, Oct 2011 – India won (5-0). Sachin was not recovered from injury.
  11. India vs West Indies, 5 match series, Nov-Dec 2011 – India won (4-1). Sachin was rested again for ODI series after he scored 218 runs at 43.60 avg from 3 test matches vs WI in Nov 2011.
Test matches:
All the three test matches Sachin missed were against West Indies during the last year away test series. As I mentioned earlier, he was in awesome form during that period.

Sir, Can we get the answer as clear as you hit the cricket ball?
Now tell me, is I understood something wrongly here or something is being hidden by Sachin Tendulkar or BCCI?  8 out of the 11 series/tournaments I listed, Sachin either got rested or opted out.

The reason mentioned for resting Sachin in some of the series before world cup 2011 was precisely to keep him fit for world cup. But then why did he play in IPL 2010? Or as per Sachin statement, when he is at his best, why did he took rest from playing for India but not for Mumbai Indians?

The reason Sachin Tendulkar mentioned for skipping the whole 2011 WI tour is, “I want to spend time with my family”. Nothing wrong and we all love our families. But you just came out of the world cup as second top leading scorer of the tournament which obviously means you are playing very well, then why opt out of national call (or service)? Could have easily skipped IPL and spent valuable time with family when it is actually holidays for both his children.

I am not saying here or meant anywhere that Sachin is selfish. Playing in IPL and resting for International series is all but his choice. But why don’t spill out the beans? Thing is, we as nation and fans need some meaningful answer. Why did he skip lot of ODI series when he is at the top form? Injury concerns? Then, why play in IPL? Are sponsors and BCCI forced him to play in IPL? Or is statement of “serving the nation when you are at the top” by him is made up of just words to keep people quiet from asking him about retirement?

Far too long, we are just been restricted to listeners in the game of cricket in India. But truth is we are the prime stake holders of the game, so why hide truth from us?

College Life and Friendship

Today's Mind

When i say to people, "comen! keep learning always and you will see the difference. Learning is sign of improvement" ... but i often get shot back by, "Its boring to read" or "what i am going to get by learning x?" ... to all those people, today i found the words to give it back what i got.....

Knowledge is not everything but everything is knowledge. You either learn to embrace it or prepare to get embarrassed by it.

Simple! Knowledge is not just in books or class room, it is there everywhere you see and feel. Only thing you need to do is, start to think everything as learning rather than curse or luck or problem or whatever bad omens you sign it as. Unless you accept it as learning and move forward with that attained knowledge, you have every chance to get caught again in same old problem.

Here is the another thing. My friends used to tell me, "My confidence got hit when i hear people say like that or when i got whacked all over the cricket ground "... yes, nothing new in that. We, humans have feelings and hurt is just one cruel  thing in that. Even, i too get this kind of feeling but i learned to come over it sooner.

When someone says "you can do it", you feel new energy inside you but when someone says "you can't do it", you must see that as chance to replenish energy again.

Just want to share my thoughts. May be it can help you in someway :)

Take care,
Vishnu Kumar

Mind voice of today

I live my life in middle where the children do what he/she loves to do at any cost bravely and the grown-ups, frightened to do what he/she loves and does anything for cost. Children finds joy in what he/she loves to do but grown-ups throws away anything including his/her love, just to accommodate the word of joy in their life.
Strange but true and we think, we are brave and courageous. What a life of illusion thinking/thought we are living with.. Those dare to learn will dare not to live in world of lazy people loop.
Don't Hesitate, Lets Enjoy the life like child!
Wake up friends! Life is a path slanting downside from the beginning. The joy in it will be decided whether you walk in afraid of slips in each step or slide through (the difficulties to dreams or do what you like).
