NOTA: An Overview

This is an attempt to explain NOTA in simple terms. I tried to keep the article strictly to topic because NOTA discussion tends to take us to other issue. Those issue needs to be discussed but this is not the article to it. I welcome all views and debates. If I there are any spelling or grammatically mistake, bear with me. I am blogging after long time and I felt that out of touch while doing this topic.

I urge all of you if possible to go through this document, Supreme court order judgement copy when it declared NOTA should be added in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Wherever I say, supreme court order, I am referring from this document.

NOTA? What it is?

NOTA abbreviate to “None of the Above”. It gives voters a right to “Not to Vote”, an option (button) present in the voting machine for voters to cast negative voting during elections. But these negative votes are discarded during counting process as invalid votes, (i.e.) it has no bearing on the outcome of that constituency election.
Symbol of NOTA in Electronic Voting Machine
NOTA Symbol in Electronic Voting Machine
For example: In Arcot constituency, total of 10000 votes got polled.
1) 9900 people voted for NOTA - marked as invalid.
2) 80 people voted in favor of candidate X.
3) 20 people voted in favor of candidate Y.

So out of 100 votes, Candidate X got more votes and by it, he/she will be declared as winner. There is no re-election or there any handicaps in the rights Candidate X can normally posses. Because there is no provision of negative voting exists in our constitutional law, in fact RP (Representation of People) Act states, “Election is only a means of choice or election between various candidates to fill a seat” and “Candidate who gets more valid votes shall be declared as winner”.

What was the need for NOTA, then?

1) Secrecy of voters choice in election:

This was the first and foremost reason for introduction of NOTA button in voting machine. Before NOTA, voter can exercise “Not to vote” through two methods: 49O and ballot paper tricks.
  • 49O - voter has to fill form 17A (details of voter) and has to mention why he decided not to vote.
  • Ballot Paper - It’s a normal paper with candidate name & symbol printed in it. In polling booth, voter had to cross mark “X” over the symbol/name on the ballot paper and put it into ballot box. So, if any votes decides to not to vote for any candidate. He/ She can simply put the ballot paper inside the box without any cross mark in it. In booth, it will be counted as vote but while counting, that vote will be discarded as invalid since the ballet paper of the person has no cross mark in it.
Both methods had maintained the secrecy of voter choice as per our constitutional law. But since Election Commission started using electronic voting machine (EVM), ballot papers are discarded and 49O method exposes the voters choice of “Not to vote” in the polling room. In EVM method, a beep sound will be heard whenever the voter presses a button on voting machine in that room. So, if you choose 49O, there will be no sound and hence, voter is exposed to party members/ public present in that room of his choice which might invite problem to him/her.

Now, with the introduction of NOTA, voter can press that button in EVM and beep sound will be heard (sign of valid vote). No one knows unless until voter exposes himself of his choice of voting.

Note: NOTA button will always be present in the EVM. If there are 32 candidates contesting, EVM will have 33 buttons: 32 buttons, each for one candidate and plus one for NOTA.

2) Democracy as per our constitutional law

I would like you all to read the earlier stated RP Act law again and put special emphasis on bolder part, “Election is only a means of choice or election between various candidates to fill a seat”.

Article 19 - 22 in our constitution, deals with right to freedom. These constitutional law guarantees all individuals the right to speak, criticize, and disagree on a particular issue. It stands on the spirit of tolerance and allows people to have diverse views, ideas and ideologies. Not allowing a person to cast vote negatively defeats the very freedom of expression and the right ensured.

Every person who is present in electoral roll in Y constituency must be able to vote in that constituency during election. Just because he/she chooses “Not to Vote” or believes none of the candidate worthy of his/her vote, shall not be deprived from expressing his/her views and same being heard. And NOTA fill this gap for voters.

3) Increased participation in electoral process

So many people decides not to vote for various reasons. But if voter decides not to vote due to following reasons like no trust in government, candidates are not worthy, dissatisfied in election process, want to protest by abstaining from voting, then they get law endorsed method of doing it called NOTA.

49O method is not well known and involves many processes which may irritate voters. Our constitution felt (based on Supreme court order), NOTA simplifies the process voter go through for right to “Not to Vote” and at same time presents legitimate option to voice their choice which whole world come to know during counting process.

4) Government is for and by the people

Quoting from Supreme Court order statement will be apt to explain this,
a) In a vibrant democracy, the voter must be given an opportunity to choose none of the above (NOTA) button, which will indeed compel the political parties to nominate a sound candidate.
b) By providing NOTA button in the EVMs, it will accelerate the effective political participation in the present state of democratic system and the voters in fact will be empowered.
c) Furthermore, a provision of negative voting would be in the interest of promoting democracy as it would send clear signals to political parties and their candidates as to what the electorates think about them.

5) Reducing Illegal/Impersonate/Bogus votes

By providing NOTA and not enforcing voter who come to polling booth that they must choose anyone of the contesting candidates, Election Commission expects people who stay away from casting vote will exercise atleast NOTA and thereby can minimize or even eradicate practice of bogus voting.

Why I should choose NOTA?

You must be the change, you want to be
1) Supreme Court judges nailed the reason what can happen choosing NOTA, “an option gives the voter the right to express his disapproval with the kind of candidates that are being put up by the political parties. When the political parties will realize that a large number of people are expressing their disapproval with the candidates being put up by them, gradually there will be a systemic change and the political parties will be forced to accept the will of the people and field candidates who are known for their integrity.

2) Contesting candidates must be credible enough to be people representatives.

3) Make your vote invaluable. If you feel none of the candidates are worthy of your vote, you should choose NOTA and exercise your constitutional right to vote, thereby becoming good citizen too.

4) Will encourage and can provide a way for educated youngsters/new parties/new ideology in the election.  How? You may ask, simple answers is, most of Indian political situation is such giving a feeling that it doesn’t encourage new alternatives from existing parties available in that state/place. When someone sees so many people of not happy (higher % of NOTA), he/she may be encouraged that people are ready for new alternatives. Delhi state election (AAP party, how its functioning is irrelevant to the topic) will not be seen as one of incidence. It doesn’t even have to be party, it can be educated youngster standing for ward member in his/her street, village president in his/her village, counselor in his/her area. All revolution starts in from small change.

Conclusion:

After all this, from my personal view, one more point for what may happen with NOTA, I know many of you thinking, even if I vote for NOTA, X party/candidate will win election and nothing will change. Well, kind of but can’t say nothing will change if you vote for NOTA. Who knows it might be you just before the next election thinking same kind of governance happened and nothing changed, last time higher % of votes are for NOTA in my street/village/area/constituency, this time if I stand and explain people about my plan, people will listen because they are fed up with these parties.

Because for long, youngsters neglected elections because they can't stand against these parties (reasons well known) and people are bound to these party that people generally vote based on fanfare, money, caste, well known, monetary benefits and not the least on credibility of the candidate. If more people are voting for NOTA means, its time for youngsters with integrity and credibility to step up.

And to those saying I will stick to “choosing better among worst options available”, this method will lead to poorer democracy and worst situation. Supreme Court order statement emphasis certainly why you should not choose better among the worst and with that I sign off,

For democracy to survive, it is essential that the best available men should be chosen as people’s representatives for proper governance of the country. This can be best achieved through men of high moral and ethical values, who win the elections on a positive vote. Thus in a vibrant democracy, the voter must be given an opportunity to choose none of the above (NOTA) button, which will indeed compel the political parties to nominate a sound candidate. This situation palpably tells us the dire need of negative voting.

My Say :: Off the Record: Untold Stories from a Reporter's Diary

Off the Record: Untold Stories from a Reporter's Diary

Stories of journalist recording of events.
Book is About:
Mr. Ajith Pillar, author lists out the important (if not all) turn of events he encountered during his more than two decade long journalism carrier. This is not an auto-biography or any personal take on history from 1980 onwards. This book is strictly about the situation that Ajith Pillai landed upon, tiring times he went through, process of looking for story, threats he encountered, principles he wanted to carry forward and lots more a journalist goes through in his professional duty.

Inside details:
As told above, book is a journalistic take on events unfolded in front of Ajith Pillai line of duty. But when you are in medium of recording events profession, as a byproduct you become a historian, writing down the years with facts. That's what exactly happened in this book. It sort of ends as history telling with ground details on events such as Kargil war, Underground world of Mumbai, manipulation of media by government and now corporate world, murky world of Indian Defence sector and scams, exposes/scandals, Slum that sold Kidney like flower in Chennai, 1996 J&K first election, first regime of NDA and last but not the least, interview with Dr.Varghese Kurien is the cherry on top of the cake.

My Take:
Ajith Pillai wrote from what he saw. Its not a biased or loathing or boasting about one's carrier book. He rarely took side but when he did, he did with absolute trust that journalist must have on their story.

That's what I liked most. I would suggest anyone who is interested to know details (unpublished also) but facts on major issues happened during 90s and early 2000s to read this book.

If you want to be journalist, like to know about journalism and journalist life, this is a must read book for you.

Rewards:
You get from what you seek. This is the beauty of stories/books. I was interested about journalism and I was more than excited to know how would be the life of journalist and hardships they go through in collecting, narrating and publishing their story to world.

Actually I stumbled upon this book on amazon when I was searching for some other topics. I remember reading articles/features in Outlook produced by Ajith Pillai. So, I recognized the author and re-collected liking what he narrated in those few writings. That's how I decided to buy the book.

I liked the good. In the end, I gained more knowledge and felt enriched by the information's in the book.

Note: Purpose of this post is to make aware of such good and give outline about the readers like me who want their money spent to be worth.

Srilanka killing Tamilians - How it happened and got helped

Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said, "President Rajapaksa went out of his way to keep New Delhi briefed about all the new developments taking place in Sri Lanka. He understood that while other countries could mount pressure on us through diplomatic channels or economic means, only India could influence the military campaign. The relationship between Sri Lanka and India was managed through maintaining a clear communications line at the very highest level. "  (source)

India helped Srilanka

India knew exactly what Srilanka is doing and whats happening in the war ( the extent of knowledge about war details is not sure though). Actually Indian Government helped Lanka by keeping quiet on this issue and not speaking out with the details available to them. Indian Government used Tamilian issue as political strategy to claim votes in the 2009 Election.

Indian Government even believed war is much needed one and only by erasing (not defeating) LTTE, Tamilian issue can be sorted out. Indian Government thought to give Political rights to Tamilians in Lanka after the end of war by pressuring Lanka Goverment. India, US, British and UN all knew about Lanka war movements but they had been kept at bay by Lankan Government and they too didn't took any evasive decision to force Lanka to pause the war. The one day (actually just couple of hours) protest by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and  by then TN Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in 2009 is completely scripted drama to earn votes during the election.  (source)

Puthiya Thalaimurai TV report on Srilanka War

War Training and Helping Aids to Srilanka

China provided the big helping hand for Srilanka in Training Armies with advanced weapons during the period of 2004-09. They also provided one billion dollar financial Aid to support and strengthen Lankan military. In exchange for the aid, China received development rights for port facilities and other investments. These actions enabled China to increase its influence in South Asia against its regional rival India and secure stability on its southern flank. Further, US, EU, Japan and Canada provided financial assistance to Srilanka Military.   For more, read here ( Decisive years 2004-2009).

So, India is innocent? No. India provided help in its own way. There were around Rs 30 crore were given to Srilanka Govt under "Aid to Srilanka" in 2006-07 budget. Beyond that, India has their own agreements with Srilanka like Free Trade and building Thermal Power Plant in Sampur.

Srilanka killed civilians with intentions not by accident

In a Channel 4 News broadcast by Jonathan Miller, two eyewitnesses spoke of systematic murder of all LTTE fighters caught or surrendered. One witness is a senior army commander: “Definitely, the order would have been to kill everybody and finish them off.” A frontline Sri Lankan soldier told Miller: “Yes, our commander ordered us to kill everyone. We killed everyone.

International Crisis Group war crimes report:
Starting in late January [2009], the government and security forces encouraged hundreds of thousands of civilians to move into ever smaller government-declared No Fire Zones (NFZs) and then subjected them to repeated and increasingly intense artillery and mortar barrages and other fire. This continued through May despite the government and security forces knowing the size and location of the civilian population and scale of civilian casualties.
The security forces shelled hospitals and makeshift medical centres—many overflowing with the wounded and sick—on multiple occasions even though they knew of their precise locations and functions. During these incidents, medical staff, the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and others continually informed the government and security forces of the shelling, yet they continued to strike medical facilities through May …
More complete and further details can be seen here

Defense Ministry of Srilanka report said, “Despite the clear intent of the government of Sri Lanka and the numerous precautions taken, it was impossible in the battle of this magnitude, against a ruthless opponent actively endangering civilians, for civilian casualties to be avoided.” (source)

UN the saviors? No..  UN kept quiet during the War period totally instead of taking any action against this unlawful war. UN knew exactly whats happening in Srilanka since they have their own satellite which watches over the nations specially during the war period. UN has restrained from specifying the causalities numbers during the war since it may stir the Government and may even possibly make them to escort UN out of nations. In which case, UN can't able to provide foods and other needs for people. So, UN kept quiet instead of saying against Srilanka - LTTE war to provide food for civilians. Western countries which are considered to be strong holds of UN didn't want to intervene with Human Rights issues of Srilanka. Instead those countries official statement just condemned LTTE for their action and asked Srilanka to monitor their own behaviour.

In an interview with former UN Spokesman Gordon Weiss, he revealed many facts about UN,

"I think the broader view was that if the UN used those figures it would make the UN’s position in the country untenable, and the UN mission was not a political mission or a peace-keeping mission or an observer mission, it was a humanitarian mission. So you had a lot of humanitarian agencies who were there trying to deliver the basics to those who were caught up in the siege"..

(Interviewer) ALI MOORE: So was that in essence a judgement that it was better to be there and be silent than not be there at all?

GORDON WEISS: I think it was, yes.

ALI MOORE: Was that right, do you think, in hindsight?

GORDON WEISS: No. I didn’t believe that it was right, but I didn’t have the wherewithal to change that.

Read the full shocking revealing facts here

Finally, where is the Media and Journalism went?

If there was no Channel 4, then no one in the world not even us, tamilians in India would have known about these unethical action by Sri Lankan Govt. For that, the world needs to applaud them for their effort when even UN maintained silence in the issue. But after all videos broke through Channel 4, Srilanka has banned any coverage of external TV channels in their own land. Even the reporters of Channel 4 were deported from Srilanka in forceful manner.

Defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa said “Who is this? You rang me earlier? Is this Channel 4? You have been accusing my soldiers of raping civilians? Your visa is cancelled, you will be deported. You can report what you like about this country, but from your own country, not from here.”

Read the Media escort action report by Srilanka Govt here

This is probably one of reasons why no one, not even UN can gain access to all areas of Srilanka to get the detailed report of current situation. Because Lankan Govt has made several changes to their external policies post the war. They virtually man handling the UN or whoever comes to inquire about war by taking them to only fewer places and not to such places where the severe damages were created. This is specially the case happened when India sent their team to investigate which included ministers from Tamil Nadu to Sri lanka.

**************************************************************

All in All, the world power heads knew Sri lanka crossed the line of Human Rights severely. Even the India Governement which needs to be most concerned because it contains the Tamil origin people knew about this cruel events. But everyone exchanged something (small to higher) in favour to keep their mouth shut. They care for their own country people need.

The voting in UN is just a little more than an eye-washing thing. After so many revealing facts, if it all UN and other countries believe Sri lanka needs to be punished, then they should have done it by now. 3 years are nearly over already. How long the world will wait? may be till the blood smell in Sri lanka soil gets dried off.

We, the tamil people need to worry more than others. We can't do anything now rather just protesting. Because whatever happened is happened. Lives will never return. Whole world needed Srilanka not to get separated into two nations as own country for Tamil people in Srilanka. So, they all played their hand in killings of our origin peoples.

So care for what you care. The world moves on whether you fight or not. We are just an insect in these powerful world. Even if we fight united, then they wait till we itself die off and get to our livings.

Vishnu Kumar,

"Although tamil people emotional and culturally connected with Ezham in Srilanka, there are no extreme protest and thoughts within them to stop the war. Tamil peoples don't know about issue entirely. They are more concerned about dealing with inner politics issue. The protest are not wide enough and there are only small small sparks within them in parts of area." - Secretary of Home Minister, India on situation of tamil nadu and its people during Srilankan - Ezham war period.... Who got the guts to raise this question to Sachin Tendulkar?

For long, Sachin had answered for our prayers more often than not on the cricket field but also for long, he remained silent on many feelings (questions) from fans.

“I feel those who say you should retire at the top are selfish. Because when you are at the top, you should serve the country instead of retiring. – Sachin Tendulkar said in one of the press interview. There was no information for which specific question Sachin answered like this, but in this article, it was mentioned that it was about retirement talk.

Leave about all the remaining stuff’s in that article and concentrate on the words I bolded in the above quote. It doesn’t matter what the questions once you get the real meaning for those words. If you decode that quote into cricketing sense, it will look somewhat similar to this, “When you are performing very well, then you should play for your team instead of taking rest.”

Retiring is similar to resting actually. Because, in both the cases, you are literally telling the selectors don’t consider them for selection. I don’t remember exactly when BCCI actually said that Sachin will be allowed to pick the series he wants to play but I think it was right after India became No.1 in test rankings (Dec 2009). So, I will consider the matches India played from Jan 2010.

From 01 Jan 2010 to till today, India had played 29 test matches and 72 ODI’s.  Out of that, Sachin had played in 26 test matches and just 23 ODI’s (1032 runs at 46.90 avg and 4 100’s).

ODI’s Sachin Missed/Opted out:
  1. Tri-series in Bangladesh (India, Srilanka and Bangladesh), Jan 2010 – Srilanka won. India lost in final. In the previous series (vs Srilanka, Dec 09), Sachin scored 216 runs at an avg of 72.00 from 4 matches. Sachin opts out of this tournament.
  2. Tri-series in Zimbabwe (India, Zimbabwe and Srilanka), May-June 2010 - Srilanka won. India won just 1 match out of 4 and failed to qualify for final. Most of the first choice Indian players missed the tournament due to IPL workload. Sachin scored 618 runs at an avg of 47.53 in the IPL, Mar- Apr 2010.
  3. Asia Cup, Jun 2010 – India won the cup. Again Sachin opts out of the tournament.
  4. Tri-series in Srilanka (India, Srilanka and New Zealand), Aug 2010 – Srilanka won and India lost in the final. Third tournament in a row, Sachin didn't play.
  5. India vs Australia, 3 match series, Oct 2010 – India won (1-0). Sachin rested again and he actually scored 403 runs at 134.33 avg from two matches in the test series against Australia.
  6. India vs New Zealand, 5 match series, Nov-Dec 2010 – India won (5-0) and Sachin was rested again for this series.
  7. South Africa vs India, 5 match series, Jan 2011 – India lost (2-3). Sachin was ruled out of the series due to Injury after playing in the first two matches.
  8. West Indies vs India, 5 match series, Jun 2011 – India won (3-2). Sachin got rested again. Prior to this series, Sachin scored 482 runs at 53.55 avg in world cup and 553 runs at 42.53 avg in IPL.
  9. NatWest Series (India and England), Sep 2011 – India lost (0-3). Sachin was ruled out due to toe injury.
  10. India vs England, 5 match series, Oct 2011 – India won (5-0). Sachin was not recovered from injury.
  11. India vs West Indies, 5 match series, Nov-Dec 2011 – India won (4-1). Sachin was rested again for ODI series after he scored 218 runs at 43.60 avg from 3 test matches vs WI in Nov 2011.
Test matches:
All the three test matches Sachin missed were against West Indies during the last year away test series. As I mentioned earlier, he was in awesome form during that period.

Sir, Can we get the answer as clear as you hit the cricket ball?
Now tell me, is I understood something wrongly here or something is being hidden by Sachin Tendulkar or BCCI?  8 out of the 11 series/tournaments I listed, Sachin either got rested or opted out.

The reason mentioned for resting Sachin in some of the series before world cup 2011 was precisely to keep him fit for world cup. But then why did he play in IPL 2010? Or as per Sachin statement, when he is at his best, why did he took rest from playing for India but not for Mumbai Indians?

The reason Sachin Tendulkar mentioned for skipping the whole 2011 WI tour is, “I want to spend time with my family”. Nothing wrong and we all love our families. But you just came out of the world cup as second top leading scorer of the tournament which obviously means you are playing very well, then why opt out of national call (or service)? Could have easily skipped IPL and spent valuable time with family when it is actually holidays for both his children.

I am not saying here or meant anywhere that Sachin is selfish. Playing in IPL and resting for International series is all but his choice. But why don’t spill out the beans? Thing is, we as nation and fans need some meaningful answer. Why did he skip lot of ODI series when he is at the top form? Injury concerns? Then, why play in IPL? Are sponsors and BCCI forced him to play in IPL? Or is statement of “serving the nation when you are at the top” by him is made up of just words to keep people quiet from asking him about retirement?

Far too long, we are just been restricted to listeners in the game of cricket in India. But truth is we are the prime stake holders of the game, so why hide truth from us?

Today's Mind

When i say to people, "comen! keep learning always and you will see the difference. Learning is sign of improvement" ... but i often get shot back by, "Its boring to read" or "what i am going to get by learning x?" ... to all those people, today i found the words to give it back what i got.....

Knowledge is not everything but everything is knowledge. You either learn to embrace it or prepare to get embarrassed by it.

Simple! Knowledge is not just in books or class room, it is there everywhere you see and feel. Only thing you need to do is, start to think everything as learning rather than curse or luck or problem or whatever bad omens you sign it as. Unless you accept it as learning and move forward with that attained knowledge, you have every chance to get caught again in same old problem.

Here is the another thing. My friends used to tell me, "My confidence got hit when i hear people say like that or when i got whacked all over the cricket ground "... yes, nothing new in that. We, humans have feelings and hurt is just one cruel  thing in that. Even, i too get this kind of feeling but i learned to come over it sooner.

When someone says "you can do it", you feel new energy inside you but when someone says "you can't do it", you must see that as chance to replenish energy again.

Just want to share my thoughts. May be it can help you in someway :)

Take care,
Vishnu Kumar

Mind voice of today

I live my life in middle where the children do what he/she loves to do at any cost bravely and the grown-ups, frightened to do what he/she loves and does anything for cost. Children finds joy in what he/she loves to do but grown-ups throws away anything including his/her love, just to accommodate the word of joy in their life.
Strange but true and we think, we are brave and courageous. What a life of illusion thinking/thought we are living with.. Those dare to learn will dare not to live in world of lazy people loop.
Don't Hesitate, Lets Enjoy the life like child!
Wake up friends! Life is a path slanting downside from the beginning. The joy in it will be decided whether you walk in afraid of slips in each step or slide through (the difficulties to dreams or do what you like).

The Year that redefined my life

Well thats how i will define 2011 if someone ask me to do. A revolution happened and best thing about that is, it forced me to do things. I failed, embarrassed, disappointed and frustrated but learned to go through those moment, learned to handle the bad situation better and kept chasing the success even though it eluded me more often.

This year i will remember for long time because i believe my life basement is laid in this 12 months. Its not because i got placed in CTS and have a job around the corner in 6 months time, its because i finally learned what i need to do in my life. I always wonder to do many things and i still do, but this year helped to define the path. The path that i believe will connect all my goals separated over various field. Here is my most wonderful and unforgettable moments & good things I did or happened this year in no order.

Solid batting :

At the start of this year before moving away from club cricket, I played two of my best innings where i once lead my team to win and other to hard fought tie.Not big scores, just 48* and 34* but the context of the match in which scored those runs really satisfied me lot. Irony is i never got appreciated both times rather once i was given mouthful words for pushing for quick runs since other batsmen is not good runner and coach believed that his wicket is more important than mine.

Dream come true : India winning world cup

April 2nd, The moment which the whole India waited for long, long time. Moment of Dhoni hitting six and jumping in not knowing what to do in college Auditorium where more than 1500 students watching still in front of eyes. Tears in my eyes wept off the long awaited dream in the heart.

Writer : Sportsmirror

I never even in dreams of dreams thought i will become writer but that's how life unfolds. Its not you who script what life will be, rather its life which tells how you should. The words are less to say thanks to Vikram and Pooja Kamboj who gave me the opportunity as intern. Those 3 months are learning curve for me and today when i sit down to write an article, i see the difference clearly. Above all, will be always thankful to Singer Chinmayi akka through whom i first got to know about twenty19 which then routed me towards sportsmirror.

Winning way : Harsha Bhogle

Year just kept getting better for me. For the first time in my life, something very special happened during my birthday. Wrote an article based on my real life experience with cricket in passion and won the book which will be autographed by my inspiration and author of the book, Harsha Bhogle. Also for first time in my life, i read the entire book and simply loved it.

Last moments of college with friends:

4 years, just nothing happened or made me special towards college life. But last 6 months, the last semester where we all will be together sitting in class and spending time, really kicked off my emotions. I was very happy i took the chance to speak before my friends because i regret it never happened during my school life. Whatever happens hereafter in life, College life will be always with me together my best school times.

Personal learning : Movies, reading and off-course earning money

I think the movies which saw all this year, changed me lot. A lot of wonderful movies, thought provoking and life telling stories. From nothing to over 20 English movies now i have as collection for life like we keep books. Read lot of things, just started as vague with no intent and learnt lot.

There are so many to write but i can't able to tag those under any words. As i said at first, this is the year that defined my life path. I think facebook and twitter played major role in my life this year. As usual, lots of new friends but still not forget all my old friends.

If i were asked to pick the most satisfying & unforgettable moments, surely India winning the world cup. But 1) Vikram Kamboj recommending me to Times of India newspaper for writer job and later showing one of my article to all in Chandigarh Time of India Office, then
2) my friend Aditya trusting in my ability and recommending me to his friends (sportskeeda) saying i am good writer,

are the two moments which deeply moved me. I will be always thankful to those who all helped me and that is one thing i always ask god to make not to forget those who helped me.

Hearty thanks to all and lets welcome 2012 with no expectation. We do what we love and let the things happens rather running towards it.

Happy new year to all :)

Silence evoking emotions

People tell you always when you are in stress or disturbed, seek silence at best places. I don't know how somehow i speak more during silence but only difference is its one way, I speak and nature listen. There is a inner silence, a inner emotions which comes at high or low times in life and sprays around the truth of your real image among others. I haven't been through that situation but had gone through those emotions and silence in private (I and nature alone).

Today was one such day spending lonely time and thinking about lot of things. While walking lonely on sides of roads in one of the street near my home, i heard " Poongatrile Un Swasathai Thaniyaagath Thaedipaarthaen", song from Uyire movie, written by none other than great Vairamuthu. Silence, emotions and lyrics of that song took me somewhere and at one moment i started murmuring my own lyrics inspired from that song. It was such a great moment and felt like my life can end now. You go to through those moments to realise the beauty of life and nature of the world.

Poongatrile En Swasathai Thaniyaagath Thaedipaarthaen
jananatheen vidai kekkum pothu
Kannil iruntha valiyal amaithiyelum poorkalam kanden
Uyirin Ole piriyum munnae En Kural kekkum angae
Amaithi poorukku pinbu dhannoo

 - (Inspired from Vairamuthu lyrics)

It keeps you away from helling at god for giving you this life, away from anger, away from opponents, away from vengeance and away from all hatreds. You won't be alone in that world, your good memories and thoughts hugs you with love. The whole world is different, everything looks beautiful but until your worries prop up. Its unexplainable and it will remain as such to let others go through rather read about that.

Had you gone through moments like this? if not, try.. good or bad, you get a chance to ask plenty of questions that you can't do otherwise.

Good night and sweet dreams :)

You Name it!

Today is not like any other day for me. Off course, its Sunday, holiday for all and lazy day to be honest. But it started quite different for me today. Woke up as early as 7.00 AM, brushed and was getting ready to start my daily exercise routine but since drinking water came in corporation pipes, have to abandon my plans. Then something even more dramatic happened, i went to barber shop and finished my bath as early as 9.30AM. Now, thats something very unusual for me to have early bath in holidays and that too on Sunday.

But today is special in another way actually. A special man who everyone loves from heart and worship him like revolutionist was born today. A man without whom i firmly believe something would have solely be missed by the world and the dynasty of Tamil. Yes, I was speaking about the great, marvelous, wonderful, passionate and name it as many you want since this all will only precedes just one man and one name, Subramanya Bharathiyar (சுப்பிரமணிய பாரதி).

To be very honest, i want to say so many things about him but i am sure that it won't be something you don't know already. Rather i want to talk about something which saddened me today.

I think everyone know that tomorrow (Dec 12) is birthday for the one and only Superstar forever, RajniKanth. But this is not that something we needs to be sad about and as one of a fan, i am very happy and excited for tomorrow. Lets come to reality for a moment now, from morning and till now (1.30PM), how many newspapers, TV and any media highlighted the fact that today is Bharathiyar birthday, then compare it with Rajini Sir birthday celebration. This is nothing to do with Rajini Sir as person because he would have himself saddened by this fact. But this is about us, the society, the community and India.

As a matter of fact, amidst all debates i like that the facebook and twitter exists. Because its just pops me up the good hearts existing somewhere inbetween thousands and reminds me about the important things we forget often. Even though not many facebook and twitter status shared about Bharathiyar compared with Rajini sir today, they actually updated enough to get noticed about today special. I was deeply saddened by the way media (especially TV channel which is bigger market now) is going. Its nothing wrong in celebrating Superstar birthday because he is the pillar through which media grown and it inevatibaly gave life to many peoples via job.

Bharthiyar and Chellamal

But what is wrong in celebrating or remembering or sharing about Bharathi? It is a sad note the way world is moving now. The news about Bharathi birthday is only few seconds of information to be told for tamil channel including news channel.

I am not here saying i am perfect. I was got notified today via twitter in the morning by one good & responsible heart and immediately i was ashamed of myself as a tamizhan and student. Because i love this man Bharathi lot. He was the man who sowed revolutionary thoughts in my early days and the man who was responsible for holding the pride of tamil at a time people moved away from it. As a student, i learnt lot of things and his lessons are always remembered in my path. Its big mistake but it will be a even bigger mistake if i continue to repeat this one.

I sometimes wonder what is wrong with the world? Is the society that changed the individuals(us) or we the individuals changed the society to be like this? seriously i don't know. May be its best answered by each individual asking themselves this question looking at the world.

I want to be do this blog in tamil but its very hard for me to do it using online tamil typing software and moreover i haven't went for any typing class to learn & type in tamil using keyboard. Pardon me for that. Happy I blogged today though i wanted to cover lot of issues in this but time will come to raise about it.

Happy Birthday Mahakavi Bharathi avargalae!!!... though your body doesn't exist in the world, your thoughts and writings will always be.

Good depends on your choice

I wanted to say this for long time because its something that changed me for better. Like many others, i too had wrong impression on watching English movie (believe me even in 21st century, most people in south india except those from citities still feel ashamed and guilty of watching channels like HBO, star movies and others). I don't know how to explain this, may be its because children feel watching these channel make their parents or others will feel bad about them and lip-lip kisses or womens wearing short dresses are just as bad as you can see in TV sitting with family.

But in the last 2 years or so, my view on English movies changed completely. Trust me, they are so many good and inspiring films available which you can watch together with family in TV. If any parents reading this blog, please doesn't block your child from watching English movies because somehow in another way he/she will watch those movies later down the years. Rather i would suggest to show him/her which are good movies to watch and learn.

Movies like October Sky, Rambo series, Rocky series, The Greatest Game Ever played, Rookie, Forever Strong, The Blind side, Shawshank Redemption, Remember the Titans and few others are just as much good movies you can see both as individual, friends & with family. As a parent you teach child form these movies a lot about life and what they should take with them in their path.

In olden days, they say good books are treasure of life. I think in modern days with time running fast, movies are better to educate people with good and worthy thoughts.
